Colorado Mammoth take down Buffalo Bandits in Game 2 of NLL Finals – The Denver Post

The Colorado Mammoth survived another day in the NLL Finals.

After the Buffalo Bandits took Game 1 in 15-14 instant classic, the Mammoth forced a winner-take-all Game 3 with an 11-8 victory over the Bandits at a raucous Ball Arena on Saturday.

In the first NLL Finals game at Ball Arena since 2006, the Mammoth held an early lead over the Bandits, led by Colorado’s Zed Williams (four goals, three assists), who scored the first goal of the game at the start of the first quarter, followed by a goal from teammate Connor Robinson (three goals, one assist) at 1:18 into the second quarter.

However, the Bandits weren’t about to go away that easy. Buffalo quickly responded with two goals by Dhane Smith, followed by three more scores from Ian McKay, Josh Bryne and Chris Cloutier.

Despite one more goal from the Bandits’ Byrne, Colorado was able to get two more goals in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 6-4 at the half.

Colorado came out of the locker room with a vengeance in the second half, bringing the score up quickly after a goal by Williams nearly a minute into the third quarter. It was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams after that, maintaining a one-goal game for the rest of the third quarter (7-6).

After an early goal by Buffalo’s Kyle Buchanan going into the fourth, the Mammoth responded with two goals by Williams and one from Brett McIntyre (two goals, four assists) to take a 9-8 lead.

Despite efforts by Buffalo, the Mammoth sealed the lead with goals from Tyson Gibson (1 goal, 3 assists) and McIntyre.

The third and final game of the NLL Finals is scheduled for Saturday, June 18, at Buffalo.
