If the 2022 NFL draft is anything like the ones in recent memory, there’s going to be plenty of speculation on the Broncos pursuing a quarterback.
But Pro Football Focus’ Michael Renner is going a different direction for Denver in his latest mock draft: Linebacker.
Renner has the Broncos selecting Utah junior Devin Lloyd with the 14th overall pick in the mock draft released on Monday.
“The Broncos have been decimated at the position this season, so Lloyd would bring some needed stability,” Michael Renner writes. “He’s as complete an all-around linebacker as you’ll see in college football and recorded 30 pressures, 52 stops and four picks this season.”
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Lloyd is listed as the 21st-best prospect on Renner’s big board: “There may be no better all-around linebacker in the class. Take on blocks, blitz, cover tight ends — it doesn’t matter because Lloyd can do it. It’s why he earned an 89.2 grade this year with above-average grades in every facet.”
For the record, Renner has three quarterbacks taken in the first round: Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett (No. 3 to Houston), Ole Miss’ Matt Corral (No. 9 to Carolina) and North Carolina’s Sam Howell (No. 18 to Pittsburgh).
