Gabrielle Petito, 22, reportedly went missing when she was visiting Grand Teton National Park with her fiancé Brian Laundrie. The body found at the 310,000-acre park has not yet been forensically identified as Ms Petito.

However, authorities claim the body is consistent with the 22-year-old’s description.

FBI agent Charles Jones appeared before the media to confirm a body has been found.

“As every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for her family,” he said.

Mr Jones added: “The cause of death has not been determined.”

Mr Laundrie has been identified as a “person of interest” but was not charged for any offence.

He declined to speak to the police and has since disappeared.

Mr Laundrie returned to his home in Florida on September 1 without Ms Petito.

Ms Petito’s family reported her missing just 10 days later.

The American couple had been vlogging their cross-state tour of the US.

Their YouTube video has been viewed over 2.3million times.

The incident has provoked a significant response across the US.

Social media accounts trying to get “justice for Gabby” have been created.

According to the BBC, Instagram users have also left thousands of comments on the couple’s Instagram pages.

And the response has moved away from social media as well.

A set of protesters arrived outside the Laundrie’s family home in Florida on Friday shouting “where’s Gabby?”

The Laundrie family’s lawyer has since issued a statement saying: “The news about Gabby Petito is heartbreaking.

“The Laundrie family prays for Gabby and her family.”
