The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced that they will not attend tonight's massive star-studded live Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert.

But rather than it being a snub to the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have chosen to sit the event out so that they can celebrate their own daughter's birthday instead.

More than 30 members of the royal family are set to gather at the BBC’s Platinum Party at the Palace tonight (Saturday, June 4) – including Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The party will take place in front of Buckingham Palace.

But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have chose to spend the night celebrating their youngest daughter Lilibet's first birthday instead.

A spokesperson for the couple, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020, said they were spending the day privately – although no details about how Lilibet's birthday was celebrated have been given.

The family has been staying at the highly secure Frogsmore Cottage, due to it having 24/7 security, something the couple forfeited when they left their working royal roles.

The huge celebration concert, featuring acts such as Diana Ross, Sir Paul McCartney, Queen and Adam Lambert and Alicia Keys will be attended by Prince Charles and Camilla and Prince William and Kate Middleton.

It has not been confirmed whether the Queen will make an appearance tonight, despite it taking place outside her front door, but others attending include the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn.

Also in attendance will be the Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Zara and Mike Tindall, who spent the day at the Epsom Derby with Princess Anne and Sir Tim, will also be there, as will the Queen’s cousins the Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent, alongside the Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Michael of Kent, and Princess Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto.
