A furious caller vowed never to vote Conservative again after footage was leaked of a mock televised press briefing in which a Boris Johnson adviser and press secretary were joking about the party at Number 10 last year. In the video, the former communications director and senior aide of the Prime Minister, Allegra Stratton, joked about a “business meeting” in which there was “definitely no social distancing”. The incensed taxi driver even deliberately refused to name “these people” who “laughed down at us” and he even thinks they lack the dignity to step down from their position.

The taxi driver tragically lost both his parents to Covid and was made temporarily redundant due to the economic crisis that ensued because of COVID-19.

Writing to Iain Dale on LBC, he ranted about the infamous party in a powerful message read out by the presenter himself.

He said: “I have listened since I was seven or eight, I am 51 now.

“I always thought I was a Conservative.

“My parents were and I thought I was too.

“To hear this recording of staff laughing, deciding was it a party or business I feel sick.

“While they were enjoying themselves, laughing at us all abiding by the rules, my parents were in bed dying and we lost them both on January 2.

“They did everything the Government asked them to do.”

He continued: “I am crying at how they were thought so little of.

“I am a London taxi driver, I haven’t worked since the first lockdown, we lost work for a year, then my parents.

“To hear these people laughing down at us, I am lost.

“I am not looking for any of them to resign, they haven’t the decency. I’ll never vote Conservative ever again.”

The video, which was obtained by ITV, was shot on December 22, four days after the alleged party was rumoured to have taken place on 18 December.

The footage shows several key officials, including prime ministerial adviser Ed Oldfield, and other unnamed staff cracking jokes about “cheese and wine”.

England was under Tier 3 restrictions last winter but the officials attempted to talk their way out of it, labelling it a ‘business meeting’.

When questioned if a party ever took place in Downing Street, Boris Johnson has so far failed to admit that it. But when pressed, he claimed that rules were followed “at all times”.

It comes after a series of high-profile blunders in recent months cast a shadow over Johnson’s flawed reign and subsequently turned the heat on his position as Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party which is now under serious threat ahead of the next elections on May 2, 2024.

COVID-19 claimed nearly 150,000 lives in the UK and there are over 10,6m reported cases of infections to date.
