Prince Harry ‘transformed’ in Spotify appearance with Meghan after royal split

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s surprise appearance for Spotify saw the Duke being “more confident and assertive” than he has been in the US so far, a body language expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting their second child last week and, just days later, revealed they would permanently be stepping back from the Royal Family.

They made their first appearance since the bombshell news to promote their Archewell Audio podcast at a virtual Spotify event yesterday (February 22).

And, according to body language expert Judi James, there was a significant shift in the couple’s dynamic.

Speaking to Daily Star, she said: “Harry looks more confident and assertive than we’ve seen so far in his US adventure and the closeness of the couple signals unity and tight bonds.

“Maybe it’s because of her pregnancy or maybe it’s to challenge critics who have accused Meghan of being the prime mover in the relationship, but the body language in this clip looks set to promote Harry as the more dominant and motivated one of the duo.

“While Meghan talks first we can see Harry in what looks like ‘screen saver’ mode, slightly slumped, rubbing his hands in an anxiety gesture and with his eyes looking down in a cut-off.

“Suddenly though, like any great performer who hears the word ‘Action!’, he springs into life, sitting forward while performing an alpha leg splay that would rival anything done by Donald Trump, and delivering his words with energy and some expansive, emphatic hand gestures.”

Judi said Harry’s “upward-cupped palms” show his desire to motivate the audience and his “wide arm stretch” followed by a “soft chopping gesture” seem to show his desire to control and direct the action.

“Harry’s power-house behaviour produces some opposite responses from Meghan here. She sits close to her husband with her hands crossed in her lap, gazing up at Harry with a look of pride and affection,” she continued.

“She also seems to be directing us towards him and keeping her own dazzling charisma and powers of persuasion under wraps as he speaks.”

Asked whether she would go as far to say Harry has been “transformed” in the Spotify appearance, Judi replied: “Yes, I would.”

During the surprise appearance yesterday, the Duke of Sussex said he hoped to “inspire, challenge and educate” with his new podcast.

Meghan added she wanted to “elevate voices that maybe aren’t being heard”.

Buckingham Palace initially announced the couple’s decision to permanently separate from the Royal Family in a statement on February 19.

It said working members of the Firm “are all saddened” by the news.

The couple then quickly released their own statement, saying they would continue to support the organizations they have represented “regardless of the official role”.
