A young girl has died after suffering injuries at a David Lloyd Health and Leisure Club.
Police were alerted to "a concern for welfare involving a child" at the club in Capability Green, in Luton shortly before 8 pm on Thursday (May 12).
Emergency services were attended and the girl was transported to the hospital. Sadly she died soon after.
David Lloyd Leisure has confirmed the incident at says it occurred "outside the Clubroom of our Luton club".
It is unclear how old the child was, although unconfirmed reports from social media indicate she may have been nine years old, as reported by The Mirror.
The incident occurred in the venue's club room, the fitness giant said, with an investigation launched into the child's death.
Bedfordshire Police are investigating the incident in conjunction with Luton Council's Health and Safety Team and the Health and Safety Executive.
In a statement, David Lloyd Leisure said: “It is with deep regret that a young child was injured in an incident outside the Clubroom of our Luton club on Thursday and later died in hospital.
